The primary mission of PFSMA is to restore and preserve the USS Bowfin (SS-287) as a Submarine Memorial to the 52 American Submarines and the nearly 3,600 submariners who sacrificed their lives during World War II. PFSMA is a private, nonprofit membership 501(c)(3) organization registered with the State of Hawaii in December 1978. The Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park are operated by the Pacific Fleet Submarine Memorial Association (PFSMA).
